Cracks and floorboards
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.06 PM
I live in a house approx 25 years old. There are no issues at all with the outside or brickwork. However I have noticed hairline cracks in the paint of most ceilings both upstairs and down that have only appeared in the last year. Also the wooden floorboards upstairs have started to creak a lot more and also raise up in some areas, I have lifted the carpets and can see no problems at all. What could be the cause of these issues and is it just the house ageing slightly now or is it something to worry about Any help would be very much appreciated to put my mind at rest Thanks

Movement in the joists can make your ceiling cracks. If the cracks are strigth then it's just your plasterboard joints
I always glue and scree floor boards as I hate creaking flooring

About the cracks on the paint possible cause is poor surface preparation and probably not applying a primer before painting.
The noise that you hear when you step on a floorboard is usually a result of loose boards. The bounciness and movement in these loose boards causes them to rub together or onto a fixing nail or floor joist which, in turn, creates an unpleasant and annoying noise referred to as creaking or squeaking

Cracks in the ceiling appear when the upper floor it's heavy
And the floor board bend themselves because they are old and can be replaced easily with the same wood boards size

Don't think you have much of a problem..could be due to extreme cold we where experiencing and then the house heating up ... cracks can sometimes appear..nothing to worry about

New build houses are thrown up which is why you have squicky floor boards they should have been glued and screwed but are more than likely just nailed hence the squeak the rest just sounds like settling which is normal for any house but more so new builds
