Wallpapering onto new plaster with x2 mist coats vomplete
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.51 PM
Iv had walls replastered and have applied x2 coats of 50/50 emulsion mist coat and let dry for 2 weeks. Can I wallpaper onto this now or do I need to use another sealant. Iv painted after x2 mist coats with valspar mixed shade. The paint is now flaking off around edge finished with metal edging and also on baysides. Can I put fsome sort of sealant on these areas after scraping back. If so which product would work

Hi Sharron. You still need to seal the walls before wallpapering. Just mix the paste with a bit of water, apply it on the walls and let it dry for 24 hours. I would recommend lining the walls before wallpepering as well.

Yes I can stick wall paper by wallpaper adhesive glue as normal one and no need to do any another specific glue for stick wallpaper normal one is work.

Yes, use a wallpaper paste mixed thinner than you'd use for actually hanging the paper. This will eradicate the wall suction and allow the paper to move on the wall nicely.

You will need to seal the walls the mist coat won't have done that. Thinned wallpaper paste or a dedicated sealer coat. If you skip this stage you may find paste wets the mist coat and makes it flake off or the paste dries out too fast and the paper starts lifting at the edges. No shortcuts I'm afriad - although you could have simply sealed the new plaster with size rather than doing the mist coat!

The absolute best and most professional way to do this is to first seal the plaster with a contract Matt mist coat. Secondly you will want to use a good quality lining paper and hang this horizontally, this will provide the best surface for the wallpaper.
