Oven and Induction hob on a 45A circuit

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.50 PM

Hi All, Quick question, I'm planning on putting in a new kitchen in the new future. I have a old 45a circuit with 6mm T&E which was originally for a power shower but is now terminated in my loft space. My original plan was to put a 32a induction hob on the circuit and a 13a oven on the ring main but i'm now considering a 16a oven instead. I understand that you're not meant to put anything above 13a on the ring main even hard wired so is there any issues in having both a 32a hob and a 16a oven on a dedicated 45a circuit? Do I need anything extra to make this compliant or can I just wire it in with a dual appliance outlet? Thank you

Its perfectly safe. Ignore All Counties advice he doesn't understand load diversity. 6mm2 T&E is standard for cooker circuit.

No problem with that. My advice is to get an electrician in however if your going to adapt the circuit. Cheers.

Hi bit of a sticky wicket there as 6mm twin and earth has a rating of 35 amps max if in a loft or void its only rated to take 44amps when clipped to a wall or in trunking .

First of all ,that 6mm cable should be protected by a 32A mcb or rcbo. So this circuit breaker should be dedicated for your induction hob. With regards to your 16A oven you should consider to extend your kitchen ring main via a 20A double pole switch to switch your oven. Unless you can bring a new 6mm cable to your kitchen to feed that new oven. Hope this helps.

Hi if it was my project. The 6mm T&E should be on a 32a mcb or Rcbo. This would cover the unknown cable run. For oven I would run a 20a 2.5 radial. With switch fuse roe the oven.
