Central heating air lock
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.50 PM
I need help with one of my heater which stops heating up after a few days. I believe this is due to an air lock. I clear the air lock as per this video https://youtu.be/bAeRurEExBs Heater then works fine for a few days but then gets air lock again and I have to clear it again using the same method. Any idea why it keeps getting an air lock? UPDATE. The root cause a very small leak on the radiator next to the one with the air lock.

Hi,
If you keep getting air locks it could be down to three possible issues
There could be a leak on the system somewhere this would force air into the system.
Your system needs balancing
Or your system may need flushing due to sludge

It all depends on if you have open vented system which has a tank in the loft or a seal system. Open system if the ballcock could be stuck in the tank full position and water has evaporated allowing air in the system If it a pressure system check the pressure gauge it should be 1.5 bar pressure My guess is your system is open ended fully pump or (gravity system hot water) pump central heating which would allow the air in
