No hot water to bath but shower is still warm from the same mixer value, ideas ?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.50 PM

Hello, Apologies if my terminology isn't correct with some of the below. I have a mixer value built into my wall which supplies my bath & also my shower. It looks like the below: https://www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/bristan-prism-thermostatic-recessed-dual-control-shower-valve-pm2-shcvo-c?campaign=googlebase&gclid=Cj0KCQiAiJSeBhCCARIsAHnAzT-LgvLLykmHqthLS0yLxrZs84Cx8qtK-M4DoooICQvst-4jyrt3Qx4aAizqEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds It has been fine until recently, but when i run a bath the other morning it was cold, even after having it running on hot the whole time. I am thinking it must be something to do with the value as i have hot water from my other taps. The shower which is also on the same value comes out warm but not as hot as it used too. any ideas ? thank you

Hello, most house can have a temperature control value underneath the bath to project children from burning themselves. Especially if its a newish home. They can fail overtime. Remove bath panel and check for this would be my next step.

If you have a TMV supplying the hot on the bath and the shower it should have strainer's on the hot and cold side's of the TMV. These will need cleaning out if you only getting cold then the hot strainer will be blocked with slug from the hot water system. You will need to isolate both sides of the TMV and clean both side out and try the TMV again if still not working then it will be the thermostat in side the TMV. Witch can be replaced but some times it is cheaper to replace than repaire. If none of the above works then there is some thing wrong with you're hot water system its self. I hope this helps.

The thermostatic cartridge could be faulty and need replacing. Also check hot and cold pipes are the right way round on the valve.

Possibly the thermostat in the valve has scaled up.
