Cavity trays in cavity walls that used to be external wall and is now internal door frame

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.50 PM

We have recently had a double storey side extension built. As we have now knocked through upstairs into the new build we have have rain droplets running inside down the outside wall down the cavity dripping down over the lintel and door frame. Am i right in thinking we should have put cavity trays in above this area before hand. Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Unfortunately yes you should have, Cavity trays are an important feature in external cavity walls to assist in ensuring any water is directed outside the building.also to prevent ,including water ingress, damp, heat loss and condensation.my advice would be to go back and put them in before it gets worse

Answer is the same as the other blokes really but would say after putting in the cavity tray you also need to out weep holes in between the perps of the brick/block worker (external only obviously) which allows the water to weep out the wall. You can buy them from screwfix and other places. Good luck
