IS my roof tile safe enough?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.50 PM
I got my roof redone recently. The trade person had just laid the tile down hanging it on the roof wood bars. He add no nails, while previously there were some nails. I can see that the tile itself had an edge to hang over the wooden bar, but I'm concerned that this is not safe enough. When I asked he said nails are not needed to fix the tile. My roof is pitched by almost 50 degrees. Is it a routine practice to do the tile this way, shall I be worried about safety?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This is standard practice, it is the downwards pressure of the tiles, you have most of the tiles, some times depending on tiles you would nail every so many rows.
I would not worry.

Tiles should be nailed every fourth course and on all the edges as mush as possible to stop movement

best person to ask would be the local council building inspector as they will be the ones signing of the job.

It's perfectly safe, the wooden batten will hold it and the other tiles sitting next to it and on top of it will hold it in place. It wouldn't be able to move unless you pulled up the surrounding tiles.
