Got 2 concerns regarding a recently done roof ridge tiles

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.50 PM

Two concerns about a recent ridge tile work Part of my roof ridge tile was redone recently. The contractor did two things that made me worried: 1- They left bigger gaps between the tiles compared to before. They had to fill these gaps with cement. This resulted in them having to cut out 20 cm of the last tile so it fits into the roof. 2- They did not add dye to the cement mix. It now looks obviously different from the rest of the neighbors' roofs. With the increased gaps between the tiles, it seems even funnier. Would you be worried about the safety of this work? I'm seriously concerned that this would be unsafe and not stable enough.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

In my experience, having ridge tiles to tight together can actually be more of a problem than having them spaced out. I’m assuming the gap isn’t huge? 25mm/1inch? If so I wouldn’t worry. As for the dye, it’s not common practice to dye the cement unless the contractor was asked. Sand and cement will fade in time. Hopefully he has used red sand and not yellow, yellow really sticks out almost white and looks terrible. Ultimately I wouldn’t say he’s done anything wrong per say, personally I use dry ridge which is much better looking. Hope that helps.

In my opinion a dry ridge system would have been the best option .
