Fitting heavy-ish ceiling light

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

Ive bought 2 Original BTC Fin Bone China Ceiling Lights for my lounge & dining room. Bought online & didn't realise how heavy they were. Ive a victorian house & have been told the electrics will likely run across the joists & therefore would take the weight ok. Does anyone know if this is correct; and any special instructions for fitting heavy lights? Thanks

This is correct, as long as you can find a joist to fix to, you should be able to hang your heavy fittings by screwing into said joists, please note this may not be where your current light is so where the actual fitting is may change. A competent electrician should possess a stud finder to make this process easier.

If you have a Victotian house you probably have lovely ceiling roses too. If the original lights are already wired through the roses then your problem is fixing the new ones through to obtain a good mount. No way should you hang them from the wire. I suggest you get a good electrician or builder to do the work as it'll mean lifting the floor boards to get at it and possibly adding a new noggin.
