House is taking hours to heat up

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.49 PM

I’ve noticed recently that the house is taking hours+ to heat the house to a decent temperature and I wanted to know if this is normal. I put the heating on this afternoon around 4pm. The house was showing it was 13 degrees as I’d been away for the weekend. Between 4pm and 8:30pm now the house has only gotten up to 16 degrees. Is this normal? The house is small 2 bed end terrace

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No it's not normal. My advice would be to ring a good gassafe registered engineer in your area and book an appointment to investigate the issue.

Hi. This could be a number of reasons. Radiators not getting warm all over due to air or sludge. In balanced system, incorrectly place room thermostat. So the room thermostat is too close to one of the radiators and therefore turning off the boiler too soon. Hope this helps

You may be experiencing a lot of heat loss, one way of checking would be to get a thermal camera to see if you are losing any heat perhaps around windows and doors

Never let the heat in your house to drop below 15c other wise it takes ages to put the heat back into the walls, floor, celing everything look at insulating your house better as well.

Because of the different possible causes of this situation that you now find yourself in, my advice, call a heating engineer.
