Insulation

Wet patches on vaulted ceiling that come and go

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.32 PM

We have an extension with a vaulted ceiling. There is a log burner in that room too. There is kingspan in the roof behind the plasterboard but I know where the spots are, there is no insulation there. There are 2 rows of lights. We are getting wet patches forming in a line occasionally just below the bottom line of spots and it is really quite wet behind the plasterboard when you pull a light out. 2 bottom row lights have now stopped working. The roof isnt leaking so it must be condensation and it is likely running to the lowest spot. How do we fix this problem? Thanks.

One thing I would definitely check is that you have an air flow gap between your Kingspan and roof felt. Make sure the insulation board has not been pushed right up to the felt. Then check you have soffit vents or tile vents in the roof. If it's condensation then the solution is definitely ventilation and air flow👍. Good luck

I bet that roof has a very shallow pitch and water going in only on heavy downpour

Sounds like a condensation issue. You need to improve airflow to resolve this, Ventilation and eaves, and near ridge line/top of roof to get air moving.
