Rubberised Paint sealant - against regs and a fire risk??
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.44 PM
Hi, We are looking to have a leak in our roof repaired and the Roofer who came round to quote said that the Rubberised Paint sealant that has been painted onto the parapet walls are reportable and presents a huge fire risk. Is this true? I have been looking online and this stuff seems like it is used fairly extensive on roofs. We were told that it needs to be covered with fibre glass immediately. Anyone care to comment? We are really unsure how to proceed so any help greatly appreciated. Cheers

I Definitely would not rush out to paint it with fibre glass as it is no more a fire risk than any other roofing product, think you roofer need to stop telling porkies, if he is not telling you the truth about this what else is he telling porkies about, if you want a long term solution lead it code 4-5-6
good luck Alex

If the roof is leaking still the best product in liquid form 100% is acropol but it is only used as short term in the long run you will have to replace the roof of fix it with correct fixings

WIthout knowing the exact product the roofer is referring to that has been laid, I am not sure they are advising you correctly! I would seek at least either, one or all of the below:
Seek a second opinion
Ask the roofer to provide wording that refers to reporting this issue
Contact your local building regs office to seek clarification & assurance
Check product details, or manufacturer helpline to check product application / uses
Best regards
