Conservatory roof replaced

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.44 PM

I have moved into a new house which has a reasonable sized conservatory. Its a good space however its freezing. Im considering getting the polycarbonate roof replaced. What is your thoughts on a new roof fitted or should i just get it insulated somehow.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

We seem to be on a run of these, we change them for a highly insulated flat roof plastered inside with a couple of smaller tinted glass skylights to still have a good amount of light in but the temperature is more controllable.

Well as I understand the problem that the customer has is the cold.we can avoid that with insulated ceiling and upvc finish and for more light we can add two roof windows.i think the price will be much better.the other option is to build the roof with tapsco tiles on the existing body, with double insulation and plaster finish.the price is gone be a bit higher, but is gone look amazing and he gone be safe all the year.(from the weather)

In my experience, I've always replaced them. Your options are limited to either a glass roof but that will only improve the heat/cold slightly unless well heated and the glass will retain far more heat than the old polycarbonate. A far better roof would be to replace it for a solid roof with lightweight tiles, fully insulated, with a volted, plasterboard ceiling and sunken spotlights. That way you still get the feeling of the conservatory and it makes the room feel bigger than if you had a level ceiling on the inside. The option of velux windows can be a great addition for nature light. Please stay away from replacing it with a flat roof, unless it's a GRP, fibreglass or rubber roof, anything else is asking for trouble. Regards Andythehandyman
