Replacing external front door: which is easier to fit?

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 3.00 PM

I’m planning to replace my front door and doing this on a budget. My current external front door measurements are: 875mm by 2020mm I’ve been seeing doors (external frame measurements): A) 870mmx2065mm B) 885mmx2015mm On balance, wondering which would be easier to fit and whether, on balance, it’s easier to fit a taller (less wide door) or a Wider, but shorter door All answers are welcome Thank you for your time Edit: I suppose I’m asking if the framing is easier to extend length-wise or width wise?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I personally would purchase b as you can plane down the door so you could actually buy either and plane both down, depends on the carpenter you choose to fit it. B would be easier as you only have to plane off 10 mm so 5mm off each side

I agree with the previous answer, you can only reduce the size of the door by a maximum of 5mm on each side of the new door that you are looking at buying. Make sure that your measurements are correct, if you are purchasing a veneered door rather than a solid hardwood door make sure that the veneer is thick enough and can be planed back enough so that the door will fit correctly. Find a good trades person who has done this a few times before and who can give you advice on how to go forward with this job. Good luck, Darren.
