Hallway light switch

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.05 PM

I have a Hallway light that has a switch on either end of the hall. But behind the hallway light is my living room. When my living room light is on the hallway light will not turn on. So for example I could have my hallway light on and as soon as I turn the living room light on it goes off. Neither switch socket has a switch to the other light. The living room light is on its own single switch. The hallway on one end is 2 switch with the other being an outside light. The other is also a 2 switch with the 2nd being the staircase light. I want to be able to have my hallway light on whilst my living room light is on, please help!!!! TIA.

Wired up wrong. Sounds like someone who doesn't know what they are doing has tampered with it at some point. Get an electrician to look at it.

As per the previous answer It sounds like when some work was done the wiring has been inadvertently swapped around. My guess would be that the two switches share a common supply line and this has been swapped with one of the switch wires. Lighting, especially two way lighting is difficult to sort out, strongly recommend getting an electrician to look at it.

Sounds like either an issue with the 2 way switching or the permanent feed for the switches/lights are in the wrong places, would advise calling an electrician as it should be an easy fix providing it has been wired correctly originally.
