No water coming out from upstairs taps

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.50 PM

Hi there I am in urgent need of help!! The weather has plummeted over the past week so at nights its -6 so this may be the cause. Anyways, since early this morning there has been no water coming out from the upstairs hot taps, both sink and bath. The cold taps work fine, I have checked downstairs and the hot water is coming out fine from the kitchen sink and bathroom taps, I have tried bleeding all the radiators, airing the system with no solution. I have also noticed when I put the central heating on that just the heater closest to the boiler gets extremely warm but the rest are frozen cold. The weather has been very cold the past two weeks but we did not have any issues until this morning. Any help or advice would be appreciated thanks!

If you have a condensing boiler, it sounds like the condensate pipe could be frozen, they used to be fitted with 22.5 waste pipe but most are now fitted with 35mm waste pipe for the above reason. You will need to thaw the pipe Hope this helps

With no water coming out of the hot taps I would think it's likely a gravity system with a CWS tank in the loft. In which case it is likely that either the main supply into the tank, or the outlet to the HW cylinder or both, are frozen. You will need to check these closely right away & make sure a pipe hasn't split or joints separated. If they have & you don't get the tank drained & the mains water closed off, then you are in for a flooded house. I don't mean to alarm you, but that is the reality of the situation.

You will need to give more details if you have a old system open vented (I.e tanks in the loft and airing cupboard) Or a combination boiler. Or a unvented cylinder with system boiler. And also if you are getting any liquid from the taps or just getting cold water from the hot taps. If your not getting any liquid it sounds like you might have a airlock on your upstairs taps. If your just getting cold water it could be a few different things. As for the heating that could also be air or a build up of sludge. More details needed.
