Mould on plaster due to broken pipe underwater heating.
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.48 PM
Black mould developed along a corridor wall in our flat from ground to about 1.5 metre height. In bedroom wallpaper coming off at ground to about 2cm height. Bathroom smells dusty. Suspected underfloor heating leak. Plumber checked boiler and identified problem as hot water feed. Leak detection specialist identified the source of the leak close to the boiler. Hot water feed has been turned off. CH on. Water has obviously spread underneath our floor from boiler at back of house to corridor wall leading to bathroom and from behind there to separate WC in main bedroom. Had already removed black mould -fungicidal wash, bleach and sugar soap and rinsed. Hasn’t returned since hot water feed turned off. The hallway only had a mist coat. Bedroom was painted and the paint is coming off like wallpaper. Have removed most and washed as above. Some of the plaster has blown in the corridor ( it sounds hollow in parts) and near the bathroom is coming away to reveal blocks underneath ( block not stud wall construction) Will we need to have all the plaster removed and redone or can it be taken off at a damp level and patched when everything is dry?
