How/who repairs uneven & loose floorboards?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.48 PM

I am getting a new carpet but have some lose, uneven & one partially split floorboards. Do these need to be fixed before carpet- and what type of tradesperson would i need to do it? Not sure if good underlay & carpet would hide the problem?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Most handymen can help with this, there are special screws for floorboards which have a dual thread, one to fix into the joist and the other tightens the board down, any loose board can be screwed down again using these screws. If there are damaged board these can be replaced or just the area that has failed. If the whole area is really bad then thin ply or hardboard can be put down first which will help give an even surface.

Any good floor layer would offer to ply with a 6mm ply (not hardboard waste of money) prior to fitting carpet and then you would have a perfect floor for your new carpet. Of course it maybe that just a good underlay is required, again a good carpet fitter could advise this for you with a site visit
