Smoke coming out of another fireplace

I have a open fire in my back room of house and when I light smoke comes out of fireplace in front room but I have chimney pots on the chimney so it's open but it still comes out and as far as I know all the chimneys have separate Chambers can't understand why it comes out

Midtheathers are damaged, needs a liner of some description, either steel or thermocrete etc.

The reason for this is smoke is finding gaps in between the bricks and going into another flue , it’s very common in old houses . Especially if any of the other pots have caps or cowlings on them . The ones not being used might even be slated off and you wouldn’t know so smoke hits the slate or obstruction and spills back into the room or rooms

The ' Feathers ' [ dividers inside the chimney ] are often not tied in the the outer course of the chimney , the lime mortar turns to dust over the years and it only takes a slight push with a sweep brush to dislodge a brick causing either a blockage or a leak from one chimney to another . Yes , first answer is correct , you need a liner , or a chimney rebuild [ expensive ]
