Cold air from the from my original 1930's fireplaces

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.56 PM

I live in a 1930's house with has 2 orginal fireplaces with tiled decor surrounds in two of the bedrooms. I would like to keep these original features, but i have noticed that their is a lot of cold air coming down the chimmey breats which makes the rooms very cold during the night. I was wondering wether i could have these blocked to avoid this. Any other suggestions would be appreciated . thanks

not a good idea to block them of you can cap the top and vent the bottom they must have some air flow to avoid dampness
