Bathroom options: Vinyl Sheet on ply?
Anonymous user 3 March 2024 - 3.44 PM
We’ve had 18mm ply installed to act as the sub floor as it wasn’t level.
We’ve got the option of vinyl click or vinyl sheet. I like the idea of vinyl sheet as you can easily replace it. Does it need to sit on any sort of underlay and do you need to seal the ply with any water protection? We have spare 6mm ply laying around.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Some come with underlay on it or some require underlay,
If it's in a bathroom floor you don't have to the ply as you seal the edge of the vynl with silicone but if it was me I would prefer to seal the ply as then it's double protection even though vynl is waterproof it's up to you

Follow the manufacturer guidelines. For waterproofing you can tank the ply, apply flooring and silicone the edges. You can do just the last 2 steps if you want to save money.

some of them come with underlay already and some of them come with waterproof as well depends on the the type of vinyl and material u buy or looking for
You should always use ply as it keys the floor boards together. I’d use screws not nails too so they don’t work their way up through vinyl.
There is no need to seal the ply unless you are gluing down on to it in which case just use a primer.
