Replacing electric shower for one which works directly off the boiler

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.44 PM

I have a combi boiler in an airing cupboard and a electric shower unit in my bathroom, both which are upstairs and back to back to one another. I wish to replace the electric shower unit for a thermostat type so that it works directly off the boiler, thus eliminating the need running cost for electricity. Could you advise what I need to search for online when looking to purchase a new suitable shower system for the need described. Also I understand the units come in different powers, how do I work out what my water pressure is in my house for suitability with the new shower system?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi adnan, search for mixer showers this should help. Also make sure electric shower supply is disconnected from supply before removing shower.

Hi, I would advise searching for a thermostatic T bar mixer shower and make sure a qualified electrician disconnects your old supply to the electric shower

Thermostatic shower. You could only have this with new pipework so bare that in mind it would mean chases in the walls. If the original electric shower is situated in a bath It would be cheaper to have a mixer tap shower installed. The only real difference being the ease of switching it on. Thermostatic is controlled temperature with no adjustment whereas a mixer shower is to be constantly set to correct flow of both cold and hot to get desired temperature.

Hi I would just like to add to the comments, swapping from electric to thermostatic shower is possible. Obviously the new valve will require a hot water feed. The bathroom might have been fitted with an electric shower due to low hot water pressure. If you have fitted a pressurised cylinder then running the feed is straight forward, if you have a cold water tank gravity feeding your cylinder then a pump will be required.
