My Gas Bill has quadrupled since having my Vaillant Ecotec Pro Boiler serviced. Why?

I recently had a gas safety certificate check done by and my Vaillant Ecotec Pro24 boiler serviced/checked. However a month later and after taking a meter reading it showed that the amount used had nearly quadrupled since the previous month with no change in usage. Hot water is only set at 50 degrees as usual and radiator temperature at 55. I am certain the guy doing the check has altered the settings but I don't know how to check or what to look for. Please help!

There is not much the engineer could have done, only adjusting will be on the gas valve inside the boiler itself which is not advisable for safety reasons. The gas valve is also regulated so only use what it needs. Check your gas meter that the test nipple is in place and maybe not missing. Did you had the heating on a month ago? It will be a big difference with heating on now and gas prices atm.

Call the gas engineer back, and ask him check for any gas leaks.

During the service the engineer should have gas rated the appliance, taken inlet working pressures at the Meter and the boiler... those 3 checks will determine whether the boiler is receiving correct amount if gas from the meter, If over gassed this would increase your bills within the household and could be a gas meter regulator issue... all gas appliances in the house need to be inspected
