Best way to paint a newly plastered bathroom ceiling

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.59 PM

HI, I need advice on what to do when painting a newly plastered bathroom ceiling. The plaster is now dry, but is it enough to just apply a mist coat and then bathroom paint or do I need a different type of primer to seal it completely. Please advise and talk me through what to do. Many thanks for any advice.

As above, just please remember to use "normal" emulsion paint not bathroom one for mist coat ! Regards.

Hi I would mist coat it and let it dry and then apply 2 coats of emulsion for a bathroom

If you water your mist coat down to look as thin as milk then any emulsion will do. I do 2 mist coats to make sure the paint is sucked into the fresh plaster then apply paint straight out of the tub.

Mist coat 50% water and 50% paint. The manufacturer will state on the tin whether or not it can be used on bare plaster. I would use a contract matt and finish with chosen paint. After mist coating wait at least 4 hours before sanding or recoating.
