Vents from groud floor to first floor
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.05 PM
Hi, We are potentially getting 2 log burners installed in our house. I was thinking of how to maximise the heat generated from log burners and distribute around the house. Is it feasible to put in vents in the ceiling near the log burners, along with inline fans and ducting to vents in the rooms in the first floor of the house ? Are there any regulations against this. Has anyone done this before ? Forgot to add that we have an Envirovent PIV installed, which provides positive air pressure in to the house. Thanks.

Hi I would advise you didn’t do any of this yourself. Whoever installs your log burner’s will have to check the ventilation requirements for each appliance. Depending on the room sizes/burner outputs, additional permanent ventilation may be required. A calculation is done to determine the ventilation levels needed, If you add additional vents fanned into other rooms it will change the original ventilation requirements. Also you would have to factor in any ventilation requirements for the rooms that the heat is blown into. Adding fans to any room with a burning appliance, either gas or solid fuel needs to be checked by a qualified professional. Can be potentially dangerous if not 👍
