Damp Proofing

Sticky/Wet recess around large windows

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.49 PM

How to Identify between a damp or condensation? There is the usual condensation on our bedroom windows but the recess around it are also wet/sticky (probably some of the paint perhaps). Room was repainted this summer. As most people this year, we've been reluctant to turn the heating on so far. Please could someone advise if this is normal for condensation? Hoping its not any outside water. We're also looking to get a dehumidifier to alleviate the condensation/humidity. Any comments will be useful. Thanks :) Update: Bedroom is on the first floor.

Hi In most cases of windows that create lots of condensation through the cold breach the side returns will become soaked over time Trickle vents , venting , better insulated windows , warmer internal temp will slow or reduce current condensation collecting on cold surfaces

The stickiness is the paint failing because the under coat (s) has become saturated. This could be a pure condensation issue or it could be that the plaster, not render, in the reveal is too thick , and is absorbing moisture from the atmosphere. Do not try to solve this with a dehumidifier, it will make no difference to this condition.

First I would ask is your bedroom on the ground floor or fist floor because if it's on the first it can not be rising damp .
