Does the new piping of the central heating require a certificate?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.49 PM
I just had new boiler installed, radiators replaced as well as all central heating hot water pipes in the house replaced (copper). I was given a gas safety certificate, but is there a certificate for the water pipes? Water supply Regulations state that all newly installed pipes must be tested at 1.65 times max pressure of the system. Is there a certificate for this test? Thanks Andrei

On site new house build, the pipe work is tested to 12 bar it varies with different home builders.
This is not carried on domestic installs if you specified this at quotation stage I would have charged an additional fee to test the pipe work only with out the boiler or radiators connected.

The installer is not required to self certify a water pipe installation only the boiler in your case

These certificates tend to be issued on commercial dwellings & each form varies from company to company, This is not a legal requirement and will not affect any insurance on your property if this is your reason for asking. Also for central heating working pressure would be between 1-1.5 bar a test pressure of 1.65- 2.47 bar would be required which table x copper is more than ample of carrying (51 bar)

Hi .
pipes replacement don’t need certification. Except gas pipes .
Pressure test is required for all installations.that’s part of the plumber/ engineer task.

There isn't actually a certificate for the pipework other than the fact the installer is responsible for any leaks or problems with it over the coming months.
However you have a gas certificate and the benchmark book should be filled in at the back of the manual and registered with the boiler firm should be done to validate the warranty for breakdowns ect

There is no regulation that requires the need of certification on water pipes in domestic at least. It is just a set standard for testing the pipe work on the water side usually on new installs. Your central heating will never go over 3 bar because of the prv so no issues there and the incoming cold would usually be between 1 and 4 bar so no need for certificate because copper is good exceeding 30bar and push fit 25bar.
