laying wood on top of concrete

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.48 PM

Hi-Im in a basement flat-no damp-and im going to lay a wooden floor.I am thinking laying joists first with some form of insulation would be better than glueing straight to the concrete as it would be easier regarding pipework etc.Alternative being tracing routes in the concrete and then fixing the engineered wood or solid wood directly on top but that doesn't sound ideal.Any thoughts? Want the cheapest, best option thanks

You can lay the wooden flooring straight onto concrete basement floor. This would be your cheapest option

Don’t lay solid wooden flooring full stop It will definitely expand and cause you issues later In my professional opinion your best option would be a quality laminate with suitable underlay

You could use a good underlay, that provides insulation and with a built in damp proof membrane, and then lay an engineered floor, gluing the tongue and groove with a recommended (pva) wood glue.
