gravity fed loft tank to mains?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.48 PM

hey all. just had bathroom renovated, and now finding the cold water for bath/shower and bathroom sink, which are gravity fed from loft tank, just isnt sufficient anymore. I am guessing because i have the lever mixer taps they just arnt design for low pressure like that. I am wondering if it can be as simple linking the mains into the loft tank with the tank output, in the loft. If need be can add a pressure reducing valve. All pipes are 15mm copper. I know i will have to change the toilet filler as that was set up for low pressure feed, but other than that, am i missing something or would it really be as simple as that? Read the response regarding unvented cylinder, but i thought that was to do hot water. Just to clarify, I have a combination boiler so the loft tank only supplies the cold water taps in bathroom - and the toilet. Nothing else. I am not doing it myself, but i want to understand what is possible before hand. Edit 2 - Thanks for responses - it does sound like it should be as simple as i had hoped. To RN Hill - I absolutely definitely do have a combi boiler. It is weird that the water tank was kept as when the heating system was put in - i cant explain it, but i do know it only feeds toilet and bathroom cold taps

if you do this it will cause a flood, you can do away with the tank all together, fit an unvented cylinder and run every thing off of the main, get a qualified plumber to look at your plumbing and advise you. in that case cap off cold service from tank connect main to cold down service that would give you mains pressure hot and cold, with hot mains pressure and low pressure from tank it would not work well before even with older taps made for low pressure .

If you have combi boiler then you don’t need the storage tank. Remove the tank and loop the main supply to tank with cold water down service.

To be honest it doesn't sound like you have a combi boiler if you have a tank in the loft that's live.Get a plumber round so he can take a look and advise you.If you have and it's just feeding your cold taps bar the kitchrn. These just need piping too your mains.cap the cold feed and out let in your loft and make the tank refindant
