Carpet very thin? damage on 2nd day

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.48 PM

Help, I had carpet fitted 3 days ago and it appears very thin, i was shown 3 ranges in swatch books and advised that the middle one was what most people went for. The carpet i have received appears very thin and I'm not sure how the cheap version could be much thinner. The pile is very spaced out and the rough backer very thin. Obviously, they do not give samples so i cannot tell if this is what i ordered as all the swatch books have knitted sealed edges so look different to the actual carpet. I also did some ironing last night for no longer than 1 hour and this morning i can still see an indent this afternnon in the carpet where one of the legs was. Can this be right? n/b i paid extra for 10mm underlay, with 8mm on the stairs!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Must be a very cheap carpet as a good quality carpet has a better backing and a pile which wears much better. Your cheaper carpets do not wear well at all and this could also be most likely because of a cheap bad quality underlay. Just because it is 10mm doesn’t mean it is good quality you get good and bad and if it’s cheap it will squash straight away. Hope this helps and sorry to hear you’ve had a bad experience we don’t all sell cheap horrible materials

Cant really comment on the carpet .best idea would be to get the supplier back out and compare against the swatch.... If the customer has put 10mm in a room and 8mm on the stairs they have been badly advised it should be the other way round... I dont like commenting on other peoples work .sorry

Unfortunately, it sounds like a very cheap carpet, wholesale £2.99 M2? You should always see a genuine sample. If the sample is not the same as the carpet installed you have grounds for complaint.

Not sure why you dont just go back to the place you got it and ask to see the book of samples you chose it from. If they wont let you take the sample away with you take a bit of your carpet to them. Why 8mm on the stairs ? The stairs take more traffic than a bedroom. Put 8mm in the bedroom , it's the least used room .
