Water leaking into bedroom without obvious source.
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.48 PM
Part of the plaster ceiling in my mother's bedroom recently collapsed, with drips of water coming down. Part of the rest of the ceiling is also visibly damp water. I've not seen the drips myself, as the water is only running into the property when it's raining, and I've not been there while this is happening. Above the bedroom is a converted attic bedroom. Now for all the odd stuff. 1. There are no water pipes above the collapsed bedroom ceiling. The drips are only occurring during heavy rainfall. At all other times, there's nothing. 2. The attic bedroom directly above (and below the roof) is dry as a bone..! The floors, the walls, and the ceiling are all dry, and there's no water apparently running in anywhere. 3. A roofer came and could see nothing unusual. He was honestly baffled, as he too was expecting to find a damp attic. 4. The guttering around the house right now is FULL of water. Unfortunately, it has nowhere to go, due to the heavy rains having clogged all the drains nearby. While I'm leaning into believing that these overflowing gutters are the cause, as the water might be finding its way into the house as the water leaks over the sides, this feels like a stretch, as the collapsed plaster is 2-3 meters from the windows, and therefore the gutters. Any water would have to find a way to travel along something into the damaged spots. However, it's all I have to go on. Has anyone ever heard of gutters causing such damage internally? (sorry for this somewhat whooly question, but it's very, very strange!)
