Two Light Switches "Fighting" Each Other for the Light, is it an easy rewire?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.31 PM

Hi, I've got two switches in one room linked to the same light, but they "fight" each other for which one can turn the light on. What I mean by that is that if one switch is in a certain position, the other becomes completely inactive, and vice versa. Is this something that's easily rewired by taking the lightswitch off and reconnecting it properly, or are my wires completely bodged? See video of me demonstrating the issue: https://drive.google.com/file/d/12lGRVa4ai04bkrnFqPf5HsOOp_pXWl6x/view?usp=share_link Thanks!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It sounds like one of the pass-wires and a switch feed are connected the wrong way. Super easy fault to rectify for any qualified electrician, just a case of swapping pass-wire and switch feed to their correct terminals which is all of a 1 minute job.

yes I agree, just sounds like switch wires and strappers (cables that go from switch to switch) are mixed up

Strappers are terminated into the wrong terminals. Would recommend getting an electrician to take care of this though. RRS ELECTRIC LTD

The conductors have been terminated into the wrong terminals at one or maybe both of the 2 way switches. So long as it was wired correct originally it is a simple fix for any decent electrician.
