Cooker Hood - extract air or circulate in room?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.44 PM
Hello We got a new cooker hood, is it with a filter (cleanable filter) and thinking to vent the air or rather to leave it circulate in the room? My thought is to drive a small whole into the plasterboard and let the air extract behind the plasterboard. It is the end wall, there is a gap between pasteboard and the partition wall. I thought it may cause condensation but not sure. Extractor fan will be used to extract cooking air or some sort. Any ideas?

Hello, I do not recommend circulating into partition as like you said the hot air mixing with cold could cause condensation and other issues, just using a charcoal filter will work fine if your not looking to ventilate to the outside.

Not a good idea to vent in to a plasterboard wall or any cavity wall when you extract from cooking particles of fat and oil are also extracted along with the smell of what ever your cook venting outside for me is the best option filters are fine as long as you change them regular

Ideally venting to the outside is the best solution. However this is not always practical due to wall layout /possible impediments (ie external pipes /close proximity to adjacent building etc) I agree with the previous answer: never run extracted air to a wall void, a good quality recirculating extractor with a grease filter is fine for most domestic cooking requirements. One point; stainless steel extractors generally come with the recirculating outlet grill cut into the chimney this should be left unimpeded.
