Shadow of old cabinets on freshly painted kitchen

Anonymous user 1 March 2024 - 2.59 PM

Been redoing the kitchen and decided to not to have wall cabinets where some used to be. The problem is that the paint is drying fine where there weren't cabinets before, but where there were it's turning a slightly yellow colour. you can clearly see where the old cabinets were, and also the old extractor fan. The walls were painted around the cabinets before, meaning behind them was bare plaster. I took all the paint off the wall, sanded and applied a mist coat to all the walls. Is the plaster that was never painted sucking in more moisture, and will more coats eventually cover it?

Evenly painted three coats should give the desired result.

Sealing with PVA and water is better option with bare plaster. None the less the mist coat should have worked fine. You've done it correctly so just give it a few more extra coats on the area that's not ever had paint before and it'll soon catch up with the rest of the walls.

If the wall still turn yellow it may be because the wall is wet . You can rub it down. Give a coat of zinzer paint and then go through normally each step: mist coat and and 1 or 2 top coats

If yellow marks showing. Get 1litre sealer/stain block. Cover required areas. Once dry touch up areas in required colour. Once dry paint wall. Will dry as one blend.
