Garage conversion left in the middle taking more than half the payment. What should I do?

Take him to the small claims court

It depends where did you find him. For example if you found him on mybuilder or checkatrade it’s easy because they check their works and they’ll deal with him. You as a person to take him to court will take more than 2 years to proceed with the court. Even if he did get done by court he’ll be asked to pay monthly. Just ask him to finish his work again and be nice.

First find out what has happened to him Then see if he can get somebody else to help and finish the job . And then see if what you have payed him covered the work done and materials cost .

If he has done half of the work and you have paid him half the money then it’s not bad. You will have to find an alternative builder to finish the job. If he has just started the job and walked out without doing half the work the you need to take legal action. Hopefully you had a contract with them? If so you will have his company name and address. You should write to him to tell him you want the job finished or your money returned otherwise you are going to make a claim against him to get your money back via small claims court.
