Adding pva glue to satin wood paint.

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.05 PM

Can you add pva glue to satin wood paint to make it thicker. This is for a bathroom door? Sorry i forgot to say I had started to paint it with gloss paint ran out and by accident brought satin and it won't cover the gloss paint where it needs a second coat.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No this will not work, there should be no need to thicken satin wood paint.

Yes you can, although it's not really needed as long as you sand down the door correctly and use a good undercoat. Satin paints are very moisture resistant as well without adding PVA glue. Just remember when you add PVA to paint it will make the paint act differently than its supposed to. If it was me I wouldn't add PVA and just make sure you prep the door correctly first and you'll be fine.

You do not mention in your question whether you are using / have used oil based gloss/satin or water based. You must not mix PVA with oil based paint and in any case I would not advise mixing with water based either. Be sure to use oil on oil or water on water, just be sure to prepare the surface properly before you start and you should be fine. good luck.

Don't need to use pva in satinwood paint. you need a good quality wood paint. light sand the door and then even put an undercoat or use a Dulux satinwood oil based paint witch is self undercoating and will do the job without problem
