Lean to extension connection

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 4.05 PM

I'm building a lean to timber frame extension. Do I need a separate supply and consumer unit or can I run from the house circuits?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Adam. I normally intend to do it in a separate supply. However we are often doing extensions on house where we do not know the quality of the electrics.

Hi Adam, you can either extend off the existing lighting and sockets circuits or put new circuits in. Both methods are acceptable.

Hi Adam, the correct answer is to hire a qualified electrician and let them carry out the works

Hi. Both methods are acceptable but there are always things to consider such as the age of the existing circuits, how large an area do they serve and how many sockets or lights are already on the circuits. If you opt to wire new circuits then it may be better to contact a registered electrician as it will need to be signed off.
