Painting internal doors

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.49 PM

I have a new build that has internal doors that look like that have some kind of coating like a laminated surface rather than painted. Does anyone know if I can repaint them and how I would do that. Going from white to a dark colour. Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

A lot of modern pressed doors come in 3 types. Fully painted just undercoated or raw that is no coating at all. I normally sand the surface regardless of type to provide a key for new undercoat then the chosen top coat. I have learnt from experience this produces the best finish.

Should be fine if you give them a good sand and either a coat of zinsser bullseye primer or multi surface paint before you apply your finish coats.

Will be fine as long as you prime it first

Hi there, Pre-primed doors come with a base coat of primer, onto which you can apply a layer or two of paint. Thanks Tom

You can paint almost any surface, just make sure the surface is properly prepared to accept the paint ( sanded down ) .

Prep is key! So give the door a sand up before hand.. then make sure all dust is removed from the door.. finally you can proceed to paint undercoat, then top coat.

Yes can paint them. Give them a light sanding and then apply Zinsser BIN, after that can paint them in any colour but best to use a quality paint like a Dulux trade satinwood or eggshell

should be absolutely fine if you apply the right primer first , normally I would go for a dulux super grip primer or similar
