Insulation

Condensation in corners of bedroom and window alcove, but not on window glass,

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.49 PM

Late 1960s semi detached, has cavity wall insulation installed by previous owner and triple glazed windows. We are really on top of condensation, all windows on trickle vents, open window in bathroom, squeegee shower, don't dry clothes in doors much at all etc. but overnight we always get condensation forming in the external ceiling corners of our bedroom, even when we have the window on vent and the bedroom door wide open (we don't however have the heating on at night). We also get condensation forming inside the window alcove on the side walls, but the window itself never has any condensation on the glass. The wall in question is in white render externally where as all the other walls are brick externally, I don't know if this could be a factor, it doesn't happen on other walls in the house. I bought a hygrometer and our relative humidity levels are normal all night. I'm not sure where to even begin, the windows and cavity wall insulation are still under warranty, could they be to blame?

If your bedroom is on top floor, might be worth to check if insulation is not missing in the loft. Also, missing insulation within cavity is quiet common issue. Thermal imaging survey can gives some clues

It sounds to me that you could have a cold spot in your loft where like others have said the insulation is missing or incorrectly installed in the loft its where the warm air is hitting the cold air from a void and causing condensation hope this helps
