Can I cut subfloor right to the edge of a partition wall

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.49 PM

I am renovating a house and in the process of lifting old 18mm tg chipboard(nailed down) which has been leaked on quite a bit and is very creaky I've been using a circular saw, chisel and pry bar to get it up and working well so far My question is, can I cut the old chipboard close to the wall without affecting its integrity? I'm starting with a partition wall which has a plate beneath it which I guess is attached to the joists running under it. I assume the plate is screwed/nailed through the chipboard into the joists? I was planning on using a multi tool to get as close to possible to the wall to lift as much chipboard as possible, then lay new chipboard that is not damaged and reinforce it with noggins Also, is it different for a load bearing wall or do the same rules apply?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes, it should be safe cutting the chipboard away As close as possible to the wall, the T&G chipboard isn’t a structural support anything , just check if there are any services (Electric cable, water pipe ) underneath the board to Avoid cutting through

I'm pretty sure if you cut as close to the wall as you can the remaining bit of chip boards will easily break away

Pretty standard stuff, cut as close as you like to stud wall pipes and electrical cables are the main worry. Always check if who ever layed the floor in the first place marked any services on top surfaces. Also screw new flooring down less chance of squeaky floors and support with noggins where required.
