Boot Lintel to change or not
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.49 PM
So I have a boot lintel in place, and i want to remove the french doors from my existing house into my extension, do i need to change the lintel or will the existing one provide enough support? So, further to this, my plan is to remove the existing door, and line the opening with with timber, at least 40mm, removing a brick either side to support the top timber and brace either side, this should hopefully prevent any rotation of the lintel if indeed it would. That's the plan anyway.

It’s fine to leave the one that is in the opening

It depends how wide your opening is to what the lintel can carry with no support underneath I.e a door or window you have to calculate the triangulation mass of what is above you lintel. ( it’s allways best to go over the top with lintels above free openings)
