Back garden outside gully to be sealed with a gully grate and cement?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.49 PM

Our agent suggests we should have our back garden outside gully sealed with a gully grate and cement? The waste water come from the kitchen and bathroom straight down to the gully that is outside of the kitchen. Now, the gully is open without any cover and any rubbish or dirt can be easily remove from the gully or be unblocked easily, if needed. But, my concern is having it sealed with a gully grate and cement, any later access to remove rubbish, dirty and unblocking work needed, will make it harder to do. So, I believe it would be better not to seal the gully with a grate and cement.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You always need to cement gulleys in to get and maintain the correct level and avoid sinking. They should always be covered ti prevent serious blockages and potential pests entering them It is far easier to clean the top than to unblock them if they were never covered in the first place

There are some many ways around the problem you are having you don’t always have to cement them in that’s a quick and way around the problem you are having. I would advise to dig down on the drain line and fit the stack pipe into a air sealed unit. put the gully separate to the soil stack pipe.
