Crack on a pebble-dash external wall under the roof of an extended bathroom of a Victorian house
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.49 PM
The crack is on the pebble-dash external wall under the roof of an extended upstairs bathroom, I assume this might have caused by moisture or hot water coming from the bathroom and frost getting trapped between the pebble-dash and the wall. Should we ignore it or should this crack be sealed to avoid more cracks in the future?

The pebble dash is more than likely your problem not letting the building breath causing cracks

Yes this needs to be sealed, otherwise could cause further damages, and aslo check for breather blocks or vents if there is none this may be the cause in the first place.

Yes it definitely needs sealing but usually when cracks start to appear on this age of building expect a lot of problem's due to cold and damp weather. Tap the pebble dash around the crack to see how much as come away from brickwork it will sound hollow when tapping with finger tips

The pebble-dash is prone to cracking as it is not flexible and this might have happened due to the movement of the house. Once a crack appears in the pebble-dash try to remedy it as soon as possible because if left for long then the water gets in through the crack and cause more damage to the pebble-dash and property.
