Alarm fuse keeps blowing

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.48 PM

I moved into a new house with an old alarm. I called the old alarm company and asked them to reset it - a few sensors had also been lost in some building work so they fitted some more and put in some new cable to the existing circuit. Few months later the alarm stopped working as the fuse had blown. I called the company out and they re fitted the fuse and said there must have been a power surge. 2 wks later the same thing happened. I paid again for a new fuse. Now the fuse has gone again and they are admitting there is a probable issue with the cabling and will come out and survey..Any ideas what the issue is? bit worried at this rate it would be cheaper to just get a new alarm system!

Certainly sounds like an issue and tracking down an intermittent one like this may take some time - and money. Your thought process is correct. I suggest you move to a new system: and I suggest a wireless smart system with inbuilt auto checking. You can even install and set up yourself if you want to avoid excessive costs: look at Yale and Ring systems.

Personally I think it could be potentially a component issue in the alarm control panel. The alarm company should have done better investigational work such as metering the power and taking current readings. Personally I would replace they system for new. You could keep the existing wiring to the detectors and just replace the panel for new.

Yes certainly sounds like a cable issue, short circuit possibly. Move to a full wireless system to stop future problems, I would suggest a professional system with Internet connectivity so in the event of an activation you will get alerts, also cheaper in the long run as those ring subscriptions can be costly.

Hi I would also recommend exploring the idea of installing a pyronix enforcer intruder alarm system if you are looking to go wireless
