Pre fabricated concrete
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.48 PM
I’m looking to install some sockets and switches in a pre-fabricated concrete shed. Can anyone advise on how to get fixings on to the concrete?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Unfortunately, the only way to mount electrical wiring and accessories on pre-fab concrete is surface fix. The concrete is, however, too thin for screws and plugs, concrete just bursts when holes are drilled and the outside wall looks a mess. Another way is to use the roof trusses to run wires across and then conduit or trunking down the walls at the thicker parts of the concrete wall where the panels join, which can be drilled more successfully, then cut and mount timber battens screwed in across the thicker parts of the wall and mount the sockets and stuff on the timber battens. Its not an easy job drilling into pre-cast concrete.

Th best way I’ve found to do that is make you hole for the back box. Then sand and cement the box into place. You could also use expanding foam.

we have found the best way is to use SWA cable on 2inch Galv cable tray plugged and screwed into the prefab structure, be sure to measure the depth of the structure and add so tape to your drill bit so you don't blow a hole in the concrete.

Where the sections join ( normally via m6 roofing bolts) you could bracket of these with some homemade brackets or sum 40x40 slotted angle and then i would recommend timber batterns and then some plywood
This will enable you to mount evrything surface mount on the plywood and you can have some shelves or random screws for tool holders on this aswell
Handy to have several double sockets and a shelf below which is perfect for tool chargers and radio
Hope this helps
