Grippers or no grippers

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.31 PM

Thanks in advance and hoping someone can help. I've had new sliding door wardrobes fitted. Behind the sliding doors it currently is bare floor boards and I've bought some underlay and an offcut of carpet to fit it. My question is, am I okay to cut the carpet and underlay to fit the space without putting grippers down? The only thing that will stand on them is chests of drawers, so they won't move about due to being walked on. The only answers I can find online are in the context of fitting them in rooms and so they say you will definitely need grippers to stop them moving about.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Grippers will give you a neater finish but in a wardrobe area it's not necessary as it is a cosmetic area,,

If you don't want to gripper it. My advice would be don't use the underlay. Or you could use the double stick method if you happen to have a can of spray glue adhesive. It costs £3-5 (don't buy from the likes of tapi/carpet right)

The best way to do this without the experience would to just fit the carpet in the wardrobe and spray it down round the edges no need for underlay or gripper with their being no traffic on it and just to cover the floor.

Gripper is designed to keep the carpets stretched so there is rucking of the carpet. Obviously if it’s stretched correctly. So the answer is yes

If it is inside a fitted wardrobe, it will be fine cut to size and fit without gripper. I would use a little carpet glue around the edges to to hold it in place.

If its only a small job, and no one. Really walking on it use a wee bit of spray glue first to hold felt then on felt to hold carpet
