Internal door trimming

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.31 PM

Hi, I’ve got an older house where the internal door frames do not line up with the standard door height of 1980mm. The shorted frame I’ve got is 1945mm which would require the door to be trimmed 35mm. I cannot find any doors that can be trimmed that much and the doors I would like can be trimmed a maximum of 10mm from each side. Can a carpenter get around this issue? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes of course , the best option is to buy a solid door which you can trim down all 4 side of door as a holo door you cannot

Easiest option is to get a solid core door. Most solid core doors can be trimmed 20mm on all sides. The next option, not too much more difficult, would be to cut the door to size and insert the doors inner frame again.

I do agree, or you could use older pine doors which can be trimmed, or as peg joined taken apart & stretchers reduced .

Best option is to buy a solid door, however if the doors you like or have chosen are hollow core doors (where it says you can only trim up to 10mm) as a carpenter you can get around these issue's
