Can you do a plasterboard repair and skim on a ceiling with skimmed over Artex?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.31 PM

I have had a leak that has affected my hallway ceiling. the ceiling needs a large section of plasterboard cutting out and skimming/ feathering in. The existing ceiling is Artex that has been skimmed over and has tested negative for asbestos. There is also coving around the ceiling. I have been advised that the whole ceiling and coving needs to come down and be replaced. Is this correct? Thanks for the advice

No need to take down the whole ceiling if it’s sound, just repair and skim over the top 👍🏼

There is no need to take down whole ceiling if the rest of ceiling is good, just cut out to joists patches in with new peace of plaster board and skim over the top.

Yes you can patch repair a section of artex ceiling. Please have it tested for asbestos before you begin as it can become a serious health and safety risk. If the test come back negative then cut back the area to reveal the joists add extra baton if needed board and skim.
