Plumbing

Washing machine waste pipe- confused

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.30 PM

My son has just moved into LA housing and where you connect the waste pipe for the washing machine it’s sealed. So you connect the washers waste pipe to the end of this sticky out plastic (hose connector is it called??) but it’s a completely sealed pipe so what do you do? Cut the end of with a saw or something? Sorry to sound so thick but I clearly am :)

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If it’s sealed, it may be that it has been capped off to stop water from the waste pipes leaking out, in which case it needs a connector put in place. It may be best to remove the cap or cut the pipe giving your self enough pipe to attach the new connector. If there is a connector already in place, it may either be blocked if waste is in there and hasn’t been used for a while. Hope this helps.

In addition to my colleague previous answer, what size is the pipe for the waste? Can the washing machine waste pipe fit over it? And if it can and it is blocked with a blue insert or block with a white cap just remove the blue cap or saw of the white cap and connect the washing machine hose with a jubilee clip.

Yes it will need the end cutting off. And also needs a metal jubilee clip tightened over it once the waste pipe has been put over it to prevent it slipping off.
