Removal of old gas fireplace
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.30 PM
In our front room we had an old gas fire which we had removed and capped by a gas safe engineer. We have stood a faux fireplace in-front of the gap but the house is cold. What are my options on how to keep the house warm and stop the constant draft.

You could get the fire place brick up but it will still require a vent in the chimney low level to stop damp but not sure if that’ll stop the draft. Might be a better option having a glass fronted gas fire or hole in the wall gas fire

You would need to install a chimney balloon to stop the chimney sucking all the heat out of your home.

If the room is feeling cold then I would do a BTU Calculation on the room! The radiator in there may not but sufficient! I would upgrade the radiator! If the house doesn't have central heating then that would be my next question to the home owner!
